Mechanisms providing quality of services (QoS) in wireless LAN networks based on the 802.11e standard are described. OPNET software was used to model equivalent networks with and without QoS support. The resulting parameters of both networks, such as media access delay, end-to-end delay, packet queue size, queuing delay or bit error rate were compared. The influence of introducing the QoS mechanism on these parameters is discussed.
