Taiwan Research Reactor (TRR) was shut down in January 1988, along with the termination of a few nuclear facilities within Institute of Nuclear Energy Research (INER). In the past few years, INER has continually dismantled its related nuclear facilities. To ensure dismantling safety and efficiency, Decommissioning Information Management System (DIMS) was developed firstly to record all activities during the decommissioning project, which started with planning, licensing, post-operation, and finished with radioactive waste management and storage. At the same time, a few assessment models were also built; such as optimize workload model, dismantling cost assessment model and exposure dose evaluation model.

Besides, a lot of INER staff approach retirement age; thus, another important function of DIMS is to efficiently capture and retain domain knowledge/experience in the organization so as to pass it to the next generation. If-Then rule and neural-fuzzy inference engine will be applied within DIMS to construct Decommissioning Knowledge Management System (DKMS) in the next coming project. The paper describes DIMS architecture design, methodologies, development process and platform, as well as the conceptual design of DKMS along with preliminary results.
