We describe then ethodology and results of parameter optimizations performed with the aid of analytical expressions for the channel-induced distortion in a wauelet-based image communications system. R(D 2 curves are calculated independently for each subban , with each point on each curve representing (in addition to rate and distortion) an optimal choice of quantizer step size and channel code rate. A global optimization procedure is then performed to identify the best operating point on the R(D) curve for each subband.
