This paper draws a parallel between the design of learning objects and the design of object-oriented software. It suggests that the reusability and sharability of learning objects depend on improving the design patterns of learning objects. The paper proposes a life cycle approach for the development of learning objects, comprising of well-defined process activities designed to improve the creation of pedagogically effective learning materials.
