Concept maps constitute one of the tools frequently used in learning management as they offer the possibility to personalize learning, share knowledge and re-inforce learning to learn skills. At the same time, many initiatives or standards are being developed rapidly to make the contents in different learning management systems and learning environments compatible. This paper states the need to combine the technique of Concept Maps with initiatives that package contents developed by IMS to produce more portable and powerful content. A model to create tools for learning management is proposed.
