In this paper, an improved particle swarm optimizer (PSO) is applied to back analysis of geotechnical parameters of concrete face rock-fill dams (CFRD). This method uses the diverse coefficients in the different evolutionary strategies to prevent premature convergence and refine the convergence performance. The application of the proposed method to a case studies shows that it is applicable to back analysis of CFRD with very promising results.
