A method is proposed for the automated generation of communications software from service specifications, and application of the method is described. In this method, communications service specifications are expressed as a set of rewriting rules of a labeled directed graph, and protocol specifications are derived to search for rules that satisfy application conditions. The derived protocol is implemented as distributed algorithms that search isomorphic subgraphs that are included in the directed graph that represents the entire communications system. Detailed protocol specifications are then achieved through the use of detailed specifications made up of knowledge regarding the control of communications systems. An application of the method for developing PBX software demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed method for automatically generating communications software.
