Geometric Modeling and Processing — Theory and Applications (GMP'02) Directions in the Use and Computation of Proximity Queries Wako, Saitama, Japan July 10-July 12 ISBN: 0-7695-1674-2
Proximity queries include topics such as the computation of the distance between modelled objects, and static and dynamic collision detection. They are useful for object and assembly design, and are proving a vital ingredient of accurate animation and simulation. This paper summarises current directions in the computation and use of proximity queries, and gives a description of our work-in-progress towards making the solution of these queries faster through the use of specialised hardware.
