With the continuous development of technology in electronics products field, an increasing number of media devices emerge into the family-use range, which intensifies the demand of inter-sharing of digital data among different types of devices. A media Server is a platform to supply the sharing of equipment and media resources for home network with a focus on network media content management. This article firstly discusses the published DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) protocol study and practice in digital media, then designs and develops a media server for family environment based on DLNA protocol, and applies to the HSS (Home Storage Server). This article begins with the basis introduction of DLNA protocol and the UPnP AV media server architecture. Then it analyses the architecture of media server system, and implementations of the media server. It ends with a test of how media server can be applied at HHS. With the research of DLNA protocol and media server, this article has designed and implemented a complete media server system.
