Indexing and retrieval of XML documents have been drawing attention increasingly since they enable to retrieve and access a certain part of a document easily. So far, several methods have been proposed to index XML documents. There are two major categories of XML indexing methods, those coming from the database community, and those coming from the Information Retrieve (IR) community. They have limited to meet the characters of indexing XML documents. This paper aims at presenting a hybrid method of indexing XML documents. The new method integrates the merit of database community and of IR community on indexing XML documents. It can support exact query, approximate query and range query. It would be useful to engage all three types of common matching that is necessary in Information and Data Retrieval systems. In addition, the hybrid method is proved to be efficient by an instance.
