We introduce an integrated source/channel rate control scheme for video broadcast over wireless channels. The scheme aims at sustaining continuity of playback process at eachreceiver under varying channel conditions while gracefully degrading the rendered quality. We use adaptive playback to bound probability of starvation at playback buffers and guarantee a bound on the average delay introduced. In [1] a window-based playout smoothing algorithm that dynamically changes the playout rate according to the number of packets in the buffer was proposed. Several schemes for transporting video using adaptive playout have been suggested which consider unicast and optimize for performance over error-free networks without exploiting source rate control.
