Service-Oriented Architecture and Web Services have become key enabling technologies to implement mobile software applications and services by integrating diverse services deployed in heterogeneous network environment independent of platforms and languages. The loosely-coupled nature and the independence of web services, however, make it a challenging task to build applications with real-time constraints. For such applications, their invoked services are required to run not only to completion successfully, but also within specified duration. This paper describes a model-based approach to specifying real-time mobile web services and applications and deploying them on distributed mobile service architecture. Real-time constraints for web services and legacy application integration are specified at the model level and are transformed into distributed deployment with runtime monitoring of process execution. The monitoring mechanism ensures the real-time constraints are satisfied or the violation of real-time properties reported. The applicability of this approach is validated on our distributed mobile service platform.
