This paper presents a novel parallel framework for online provisioning in distributed controlled survivable wavelength-division multiplexed (WDM) mesh networks. Efficient use of fixed alternative routing to select the connection’s working and protection paths as well as the wavelength(s) at the same time by probing k-link-disjoint shortest paths in parallel. The probing technique used in this framework is the first probing technique that probes each path as a candidate working path and a candidate shared protection path at the same time. Intelligent adaptive destination routing with backward reservation, and distributed local information signaling algorithm for connection management are also combined in our proposed framework. The significant contribution of this framework in terms of connection request blocking probability and connection setup time are discussed. We show through setup time analysis and simulation experiments the effectiveness of the proposed framework.
