From the analysis of some hard drawbacks faced server-centric VOD system today, a novel P2P-based VOD System Using Media File Segments Selecting Algorithm(P2P-VOD- FSS), is introduced in this paper. In this infrastructure, we emphasize on how to real- timely and orderly download and consume file segments from multiple peer nodes to guarantee streaming service. we firstly give a system model of selecting peer nodes with requested file segments in P2P- based VOD System. And then we propose a novel file segments selecting algorithm, including (1)Serving Node Classify (2) Speed Definition (3) Task Assigning Rule (4) Urgency Rule. And we further describe segments selecting and downloading module architecture and class design. Based on the novel algorithm and architecture, we analyze the typical P2P ?based VOD service flow. As part of experiment work, we discuss P2P-based VOD System scheme implementation and then analyze the experiment results. At last, from our research experiences and related survey, we analyze the prospective research direction and challenges in this field.
