An electrocardiogram telemonitor using 3G cellular phone was developed. The cellular phone works completely in wireless environments through using Bluetooth device. Communication performance of the cellular phone is investigated. Experiments of the investigation are conducted in five different places with different populations or in the moving status to evaluate communication performance. Communication performance of the cellular phone was maintained near 64 kbps, the limitation of W-CDMA in static status. The results show that W-CDMA communication of cellular phone has enough speed and reliability by using TCP/IP in static status. However in the moving status, the performance was momentary below when using TCP/IP protocol. In the moving status, we suggest it is better to use UDP/IP to perform W-CDMA communication.
