The prosperity of small hardware and embedded system has been leading a large demand of embedded software. The existing widely used methodology of embedded software development can no longer meet the requirements for embedded software with sufficient reliability, stability, modifiability with in a short time. Heterogeneous evolutional architecture for embedded software methodology can help develop better embedded software. The methodology integrates the heterogeneous, evolutional and orthogonal concept as guidelines into the design of embedded software architecture. This methodology is validated by applying it in a project of video on demand set top box?s embedded software. And it proves that the methodology has much better performance.
