Over the past decade, the field of Routing in Mobile Ad hoc networks has been the focus of intensive research. This paper proposes ?A novel Bird Flocking Behavior based Routing (BFBR) for Highly Mobile Ad hoc Networks (HMANET)? an efficient routing scheme with considerable advantages over previous attempts in this field. The general problem presented by HMANET is one of coordinating communication between nodes in settings in which the details of the connections to each other can change continuously, for which we apply the bird flocking behavior, where the individual agents with limited knowledge work synergistically in order to develop an intelligent system, which is executed in BFBR through an Encounter Search phenomenon. Also we leverage the characteristics of biological systems which exhibit complex, emergent behavior that is robust with respect to failure of individual entities in BFBR through an effective route maintenance which also takes care of high node mobility in HMANETs. Simulation results illustrate that BFBR scheme significantly improves the performance with respect to bandwidth usage.
