The Virtual Cell is a general framework for the spatial modeling and simulation of cellular physiology. Biochemical reaction models are topologically organized by their cellular location and are mapped to image-based cell geometry. The corresponding mathematical system is automatically generated and solved. A system architecture is described that allows the integration of heterogeneous processes and available resources while managing the overall system complexity.
