A Virtual Machine for a Functional Mobile Agent Architecture Supporting Distributed Medical Information
Stamford, Connecticut

ISBN: 0-7695-0234-2
Jeffrey A. Meunier, University of Connecticut
A virtual machine supporting mobile software agents using the functional programming paradigm is presented. This virtual machine provides the application developer a rich and robust platform on which to develop distributed mobile agent applications, specifically when targeting distributed medical information and distributed image processing. The functional paradigm provides the virtual machine and applications developed for it with a conciseness and expressiveness not normally available with other paradigms, and directly supports distribution by exploiting the natural parallelism inherent in functional programs.
