16th IEEE Symposium on Computer Arithmetic (ARITH-16 '03) An Overview of Floating-Point Support and Math Library on the Intel® XScale™ Architecture Santiago de Compostela, Spain June 15-June 18 ISBN: 0-7695-1894-X
New microprocessor architectures often require software support for basic arithmetic operations such as divide, or square root. The Intel® XScale™ processor, designed for low power mobile devices, provides no hardware support for floating-point. We show that an efficient software implementation of the basic operations and math library routines can achieve competitive performance, and effectively hide the lack of hardware floating-point for most applications.
