Semantic Web applications use domain Ontology together with Web pages annotated with machine-understandable metadata related to the Ontology. Current Semantic Web applications often rely on the participation of individuals to annotate their documents or create a special page to describe the information and semantics needed. The annotation process has limited the success of such systems. We, at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), are working on developing a Semantic web application of the researchers working at the university or collaborating with researchers who are working at the university. The Web pages processed contain both English and Arabic texts.??In implementing this work, we do not involve researchers in the annotation process; we introduce and use an automatic annotation framework to create the metadata required. The framework produces a Jena model of researchers’ information and the annotated versions of the processed web pages. This work will be used as an initial semantic-based model that will eventually include implementing all the other applications at SQU, especially the e-learning system currently on WebCT.
