This publication presents the use of artificial intelligence algorithms based on cognitive resonance for developing a new class of computer systems supporting the interpretation of image patterns and medical diagnostics. Such systems have been named UBIAS - Understanding Based Image Analysis Systems, and have been proposed as a new class of intelligent information systems able to execute so-called Computer Image Understanding. In particular, a BFSA system dedicated to tasks of medical interpretation of images presenting fractures of long bones in extremities is described.
