The usage of sensor network is rapidly growing, and monitoring mobile object is one of important applications of sensor network. A sensor node in the network has limited energy, and thus one key issue here is energy efficiency to prolong the network lifetime. In this paper we propose a new scheme minimizing the energy consumed for handling the path loss problem occurring between the tracking sensor and gateway node. This is achieved by dividing the sensor network into concentric layers and sectors to decrease the distance between the communicating nodes. Computer simulation shows that the proposed scheme can significantly lower the path loss compared to the existing target tracking scheme.
