In this paper, a generic model MNC-SMS (Monitor, Notify, Control, Simulate, Measure, Subscription) is proposed in handling events-based exceptions that occur in complex supply chain management business processes. This model is proposed to resolve any "unexpected events" to enhance business process automation and minimize any human intervention. Events-based exceptions represent businesslevel exceptions in this paper. A real case study scenario of order fulfillment in a typical supply chain has been prototyped using Web services. A prototype is developed as a proof of concept using Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004.
