Geographic messaging is the sending of a message to only those nodes located in a specific geographic area. It also can be used to locate a particular service in a particular area. In this paper, we present the development and deployment experiences of a geographic messaging service intended to provide route guidance and dynamic announcements to campus visitors. An implementation prototype runs over the 802.11b infrastructure of our campus wireless LAN. The application was designed for using handheld computers as client mobile devices.
