This paper presents a prototype for a distributed multimedia system and discusses its value to the design of a flexible working environment. Graphical models for specifiying a flexible working environment are based on Petri nets, finite state machines, and information exchanged between them. A prototyping tool is introduced that interprets executable specifications in the models.
