A language-generation approach that benefits significantly from object-oriented techniques is presented. The system achieves simplicity and efficiency from a C++ implementation of linguistic knowledge. Sentences tailored for specific contexts and for specific readers are generated in real time, even when a large English grammar is processed. A sample problem illustrates the method. Limitations and implications of the approach are discussed.
