NREC: Risk Assessment and Planning of Complex Designs
January-March 1997 (vol. 14 no. 1)
pp. 42-49
We introduce a model for nonrecurring engineering design cost estimation and discuss its implementation in the tool, NREC. NREC assists the estimation and tracking of NRE costs associated with complete product development processes, from requirements to tape out, and can be easily customized to the specifics of different design environments. Since NREC maintains a highly structured history of all projects undertaken in a particular environment, it can also assist managers in performing an individual and/or comparative assessment of design processes within a particular, possibly distributed, design environment.
Index Terms:
Risk assessment, design cost estimation, distributed designs, complex designs
