The construction metaphor provides a useful way to describe how software is built. The author adopts that metaphor to the development process, comparing the improvement of existing development processes to fixing up an old house. Pay attention to the basics first, he argues, and work on one thing at a time-this often proves more practical than starting from the ground up.
