The first phase of the three-phase ProSLCSE project, a US government-sponsored effort to give users of the Software Life-Cycle Support Environment (SLCSE) the ability to model and then execute processes, is described. The emphasis of the first phase is on providing a complete notation and vernacular for process definition. The proposed modeling notation includes infrastructure-modeling, information-modeling, and process-modeling notations that are intended to be easy to learn and use, even by busy project managers. The process concepts, modeling concepts, modeling notation, and process enactment of ProSLCSE are discussed.
