An area-efficient oscillator topology for dual-band applications is proposed. The oscillator can be configured to operate in one of two states with distinct oscillation frequencies, and does not require a frequency divider for dual-band operation. A wide separation between the output frequencies can be achieved. The area and power requirements and phase noise performance are expected to be almost identical to those of a single-band NMOS cross-coupled oscillator.
