We present, in details, the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) applied on a neural based recognition system. The technique is valuated on the extraction of principal components in character images of Brazilians? license plates. This paper focus on the usage of the PCA in the recognition of character images. Comparisons with different neural classifiers are made.
