Fifth IEEE International Workshop on Modeling, Analysis, and Simulation of Computer and Telecommunications Systems (MASCOTS'97)
Empirical Studies of Paging and I/O Activity of Parallel Programs
Haifa, ISRAEL
January 12-January 15
ISBN: 0-8186-7758-9
We present a suite of tools for monitoring and analysis of paging and I/O activity of parallel programs. Then we discuss results of the measurements for several parallel programs. The tools we have developed allow the user to select the statements to be measured, and then to define the format of the trace record generated by each traceable event. The tools, written in Tcl/Tk are portable and easy to use. We report measurements of paging and I/O activity for a suite of programs used in structural biology, and on programs in the NAS Benchmark suite.
Index Terms:
parallel programming, paging, I/O activity, parallel programs, trace record, traceable event, Tcl/Tk, structural biology, NAS Benchmark suite
