This paper explain about research activities to know how much insulation resistance have influence to data comm. via xDSL system. In Indonesia, it's too long time ago that insulation resistance is the only one important electrical parameter of copper cable/network. Before 2000 year era to know how the cable is good or bad depend on the value of insulation resistance. There are no other measurement tester for the cable condition, just only insulation tester. Operational people said that if the insulation resistance is more than 1,000 MΩ for the existing cable, the cable is good. If less than 1,000 MΩ, the cable is bad. There are no limitation of insulation resistance value for POTS and data comm. After 2000 year era, come several questions for electrical parameter for data transmission based on modem system, especially x-DSL system, such as:
a. Is the insulation resistance is one of important parameter for x-DSL system?
b. What is the limitation of insulation resistance value for x-DSL system?
c. What is the real electrical parameter that have most influence for x-DSL system?
Looking all above questions, we have idea to do some research to analyze the insulation resistance parameter for x-DSL performance and data transmission.
