In this paper, we studied the architectural impact of the I/O subsystem design on the performance of high-speed networks. We developed a new architecture for this I/O subsystem. The new architecture resolves the "windowing out" and the "delayed acknowledgment" problems that are raised in the current architectures. It also speeds up the receiver's absorbing process and improves the network utilization and its throughput.
