A new and versatile scheme for the identification, labeling and matching of data for the purpose of relative debugging is presented and illustrated by means of examples. The scheme is based on the "physical" meaning of the data and is versatile enough to be used for the debugging of both serial and parallel code. We have implemented this scheme in our "HPCVL Working Template", where it is used for automatic debugging of parallel code with the serial version as reference.
