In this paper, we propose SHINE (SHared INternet Environment), which is designed as a middleware for applications for collaborative works through the Internet. SHINE provides various protocols for interactive internet collaborations and the real-time internet service model that generalizes the process of implementing services in collaborative works. With the protocols and the real-time internet service model, SHINE manages states shared by participants in the collaboration. With SHINE, application programmers can implement applications for collaborative works more easily. We also introduce two pilot applications for showing the usefulness of SHINE.
