As cities become increasingly congested, new housing areas are relocating farther distance from the city center while employment center concentrate or develop in the suburbia or fringe. The mean commuting distance increases in either case resulting in longer journeys to work, stressful commute to work place and heavy investments in constructing transportation infrastructure. This paper examines the emerging factors such as transportation and travel problems, urban concentration, environmental concern, surge in women workforce, investment in road infrastructure, and information technology assets which tend to reemphasize the need for alternative work arrangement such as teleworking in Malaysia, Few on-going researches on teleworking in Malaysia have been highlighted.
