The primary purpose of this paper is to present an innovative method to design and explore Islamic Geometric Patterns (IGP) based on normalisation (formulation) of the sub-motif grid (the smallest portion of the symmetrical unit pattern) within the unit patterns that literally hold the entire form of the unit pattern. Conventional design language studies have merely focused on the base principles of the classical gridding systems, which are hierarchical in nature having borrowed the benchmarks from the Greek ruler/compass method. This paper attempts to do away with the hierarchical chronological order of the formation of the unit pattern with lesser and more prudent number of tangible forms that are bounded by sheer balance of symmetries. The paper depends on the normalisation (formulation) of the sub-motif grid based-patterns to innovate or present a new design language, which re-forms the unit patterns on the basis of its new principles.
