Given the security issues arising in the electronic transfer of data, hardware acceleration of cryptographic functions is crucial for large amounts of data. Encryption, decryption and keybreaking of the Data Encryption Standard, DES, are discussed. Prototype designs were realized and tested on the XC6200DS PCI Development System.
