This paper discusses experiences gained from the evolution of novel software process technology, a code generation environment. I will focus on the question why the technology could not, after all, be successfully transferred in industrial use by its developer organization. I will analyse the portfolio of the code generation related projects of the case organization from 1985 to 1998, in order to evaluate why the intended exploiters did not accept the technology.
