Providing VCR-like functions in distributed environments is not trivial, especially for multi-stream multimedia presentations, which may contain continuous media, e.g., audio and video, and static media, e.g., text and image. In this paper, we (1) point out the main problems in interactive multimedia communications, (2) propose some concepts to solve the problems, (3) identify the control architecture for processing user interactions, and (4) propose the synchronization control scheme accordingly.
