Abstract: The emerging of Intelligent I/O (I2O) architecture provides a standard for high-performance I/O subsystems and introduces intelligence at the hardware level. With an embedded processor, I2O adaptors can offload the major I/O processing workload from the CPU and, at the same time, increase the I/O performance. This paper addresses the essential issue in the design of disk scheduling for I2O RAID-0 devices. We explore on-line real-time multi-disk scheduling for I2O requests and propose highly efficient algorithms to minimize the number of deadline violations and, at the same time, to improve the response times of requests. The proposed methodologies are verified by a series of experiments under realistic and randomly generate d workloads.
