This paper describes the design and implementation of a smart task framework for automating intranet Web Services integration through a mediated ontology. The semantic relationships between the Web Services interfaces and the mediated ontology are registered and maintained, so the platform can take over most of the complex corresponding efforts that were accomplished manually, such as searching, combining, and executing the right services. We adapted Web Services to wrap various existing systems into a general RMI format, utilized ontology to define and to integrate diverse functionalities semantically, and took advantage of workflow engine to enable a task-oriented office environment. The design rationale, related works, system architecture, and an application scenario are presented.
