Believable Cyberpeople: A True Challenge for the Decade
December 03-December 05

Daniel Thalmann, EPFL VRlab
We define cyberpeople as people represented on the net using embodiment. These people can be either Avatars that are a representation of a real human or completely synthesized virtual humans or Autonomous Virtual Agents (AVAs). In this paper, we discuss the two kinds of cyberpeople and show how it will become difficult in the near future to distinguish Avatars from AVAs. We will demonstrate with examples how embodied agents become more and more intelligent and autonomous.
