This article presents a single-phase Active Power Filter (APF) for residential facilities which are comprised of multiple linear and nonlinear loads. This work is motivated for the necessity of reduce the line perturbations because of the increment of the consumer electrical and electronic equipment. The APF is controlled to compensate the "non-active" current of the load. The current compensation is based on Fryze?s concept of non-active current. This definition permits the power factor becomes the unity inclusive under non-sinusoidal line voltage. The article presents the definition of non-active current and its compensation for linear and nonlinear loads and the details of the control design. The APF is simulated as non-active power compensator to valid the theory. The line current spectral test shows that the APF brings the power electrical system into compliance with the standard IEEE 519-1002. The SimPowerSystems in Matlab?? is used to simulate.
