We present a generic grid architecture in terms of the Knowledge Base Grid (KB-Grid) for building large-scale distributed knowledge system on the semantic web. KB-Grid suggests a paradigm that emphasizes global knowledge sharing and reuses of web knowledge base (webKB) resources. Our approach involves a semantic browser for browsing and retrieving web knowledge, a knowledge server as the web container for knowledge, a knowledge base directory server as the registry supporting hierarchical discovery and co-allocation of webKBs, and an ontology server for managing web ontologies. A referential implementation on TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) is also presented to verify the design rationale underlying KB-Grid.
