One of the caveats of the process of designing image processing algorithms is that they are often tested on insignificant numbers of images. This paper discusses the influence of mammogram databases on the performance evaluation of algorithms. We hope to demonstrate that the use of extensive collections of mammograms with varied characteristics to assess algorithm performance can lead to more robust algorithms.
