A turn in the way we organize our work could increase the integrative powers of our engineering efforts. In the past, the computing profession evolved from being hardware-centric to become software-centric. In the future, we may see a future evolution to system-centricity, with a concurrent shift from a development orientation to an iterative acquisition-and-assembly orientation.
