CALL FOR ARTICLES FOR COMPUTER

Computer seeks articles for an April 2009 theme issue on interoperable identity management systems.

Today, broadband access contributes to the sustained development of service-oriented economies. Opportunistic, automated transactions require accurate and trustworthy exchange of information about the parties, while personal information is used to commit to legally binding transactions and to permit customized service offerings. The use of personally identifiable attributes constituting digital identity is becoming an integral part of B2B and B2C processes and of many online social activities.

The guest editors solicit papers that address practical concerns, explore leading-edge engineering advances, envision shifts in computing paradigms in the area of interoperable IdM systems, and that investigate expected social impacts.

Direct inquiries to guest editors Piotr Pacyna, pacyna@kt.agh.edu.pl; Anthony Rutkowski, trutkowski@verisign.com; Amardeo Sarma, sarma@netlab.nec.de; or Kenji Takahashi, takahashi.kenji@lab.ntt.co.jp. Paper submissions are due by 15 September. Complete submission instructions are available at www.computer.org/portal/pages/computer/content/author.html.

CALLS FOR ARTICLES FOR IEEE CS PUBLICATIONS

IEEE Intelligent Systems seeks articles for a March 2009 special issue on artificial intelligence and cultural heritage. While people have long collected objects such as books, sculptures, statues, and paintings, they now also face the preservation and archiving of digital artifacts. This special issue seeks to explore problems and solutions to cultural heritage challenges in the digital age.
Suitable topics for papers include knowledge representations and reasoning, feature detection techniques for analyzing digital artifacts, and intelligent interface support for professional and lay users.
Submissions are due by 15 August. Visit www.computer.org/portal/pages/intelligent/content/CulHerCFP.html to view the complete call for papers.

IEEE Transactions on Haptics seeks articles for a July-September 2009 special issue on ambient haptic systems. Ambient systems are seamlessly integrated into a user environment, providing unobtrusive yet interactive access to digital media. They can be found increasingly in settings that range from vehicle cockpits to portable devices to homes, offices, and hospitals. Haptics as a modality has an important role to play in the evolution of ambient interfaces. The haptic modality is largely untapped, while the vision and auditory modalities are often saturated.
The guest editors invite papers that cover all aspects of haptic user interfaces as they pertain to ambient systems. Suitable topics include the psychophysical and behavioral aspects of the haptic modality, sensor and actuator design, haptic interaction design, and the integration of haptics in various domains or across domains.
Articles are due by 15 October. Visit www.computer.org/toh to view the complete call for papers and submission instructions.

IEEE Software seeks articles for a May/June 2009 issue on software development for embedded systems. Guest editors invite papers that address concept and development activities as well as the evolution and maintenance of systems from such different industry domains as medicine, transportation, or automation.
Suitable paper topics include communication protocols and middleware for embedded systems, modeling of quality attributes, and concepts for maintenance, robustness, and remotely diagnosable embedded system architecture.

Articles are due by 1 November. Visit www.computer.org/software to view detailed author instructions and the complete call for papers.
